Datu Unsay mayor and alleged mastermind of the Maguindanao massacre Andal ampatuan Jr. has earned himself notoriety as the “most hated” detainee and has reportedly received numerous death threats within only a week inside a government facility. According to a GMAnews.tv report, Ampatuan Jr. has become the “most hated” detainee in the state prison and that there had been threats to his life, prompting jail officials to beef up security for him. National Bureau of Investigation spokesperson for the Maguindanao massacre Atty. Ricardo Diaz said that the agency has already alerted its security units to closely guard Amaptuan in his cell. "Many people want him killed,” Diaz stated. Diaz justified the heightened security for the accused mayor, citing that people have been posing as Amapatuan's relatives, bringing him food items. Ampatuan, however, denied being related to them. Ampatuan Jr. is the prime suspect in the November 23 massacre that claimed the lives of 57 people – including the wife and relatives of stiff political rival, Ismael “Toto” Mangudadatu. He surrendered to authorities and has been detained at the NBI prison facility since November 26. Ampatuan faces 25 counts of murder, based on the affidavits of witnesses filed before the Cotabato City Regional Trial Court. Supplemental charges may be filed once autopsies on all 57 victims are finished, revealed provincial prosecutor Edilberto Jamora. The Philippine National Police is also looking into including rape charges against Ampatuan after five among 21 female massacre victims have been found to have been “sexually abused” before they were brutally killed. 'haunted by ghosts' Andal Jr., the stone-faced “hatchet man” of the powerful Ampatuan political clan earlier admitted being “uneasy” in his prison cell because he was scared of ghosts. He reportedly sleeps in the visitors' area and wraps himself around with a comforter. His camp also requested authorities to allow him to go on “hospital arrest” after he vomited on his fourth day of detention. His doctor Robert Ray Soriano, however, said that such request is unnecessary, saying that Ampatuan only suffered from stress and that it was “not serious.” poc/Philippine Online Chronicle
